Journey Begun in Devotions

A Devotional Life

Here at JBM, weekly and monthly devotions are provided to aid in spiritual formation.

Spending time in devotions is a way to experience the presence of God through His Word. When one is more intentional about devotion and prayer, it becomes a way of life.

We are blessed and renewed daily by God who loves and cares for us. Being present with God’s Word in prayer and devotion assures us of this unwavering and awesome love as God speaks to us through the Scriptures.

The weekly devotions, sent via email on Sunday mornings, focus on one to a few Bible verses on which you can reflect and carry with you throughout the week, daily encountering God’s presence. The monthly Journey Begun in Scripture Devotion and Scripture Litany provide a focus on one or two Bible verses including a few questions. And the Scripture text is set to music and integrated into a monthly Scripture Litany, which will make learning, memorizing, and ultimately embodying the words easier, thus, the greater the chance for faith enrichment.

Woven

“We are all woven together in the great web of humanity, and whatever we can do to benefit and uplift others will reflect in blessing upon ourselves.” – Ellen White

The following two Scripture passages tie nicely into this quote.

First, from Psalm 139:15: “My frame was not hidden from you, when I was made in secret, woven together in the depths of the earth.” (WEB)

God weaved us together with a huge variety of threads. And knowing that God wove us together like this from the very beginning and is completely aware of our inner most thoughts and goings on, we can truly embrace our connectedness to each other and to God, creating a tapestry like none other.

Romans 12:5 confirms how we are truly one, but individually serve different functions:
“So we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. (ESV)

Through Christ’s love and sacrifice for all people, we are made complete in him. Even though we are individuals, complete in Christ, we are woven together as one body in Christ. Each of us contributes a different thread or function, but we create a unified tapestry like none other.

So, a truly amazing image, “to be woven together in the great web of humanity!” Better yet, woven together as one in Christ, loved without fail by God. Sadly, many will experience tearing down and judging, which weakens the bond, thus weakens ourselves. Fortunately for us, God’s love and blessings are far more powerful. He showers us with love, grace, and strength so that we can love and bless others, which will strengthen the woven bond against all the yuck.

Which will you choose, to weaken or to strengthen the woven bond?

Prayer:
Dear loving and awesome Creator God, you loved us into being, weaving us together as one body in Christ, to live a life of love and blessing to others. Forgive us when we tear down or judge others. Strengthen us and fill us with hope, trusting that you are with us every step of the way, weaving us into something better. Amen.
